Researching, staying informed and resolving complex tax and labor matters

From information system to daily work companion for accountants and consultants
OVERVIEW
SaaS platform integrating regulatory content, updates, and operational tools.
Structured into two macro areas offering vertical specializations by subject matter, purchasable as separate modules.
THE BUSINESS PROBLEM
The platform was perceived as a passive database, despite the presence of high-value operational tools.
The Subject Index, the core tool for moving from a regulatory issue to its practical solution, was underused, as shown by GA4 data analysis.
Fragmented multimodal search caused disorientation and reduced effectiveness.
OBJECTIVE
To evolve the database into an operational platform where search, regulatory updates, and tools coexist in a structured environment.
SOLUTION & IMPACT
A fragmented system has become the operational tool that supports professionals in their daily work, within a digital ecosystem with 50,000+ clients.
+42%
Searches via the Subject Index, up from an 8-13% baseline.
From regulatory issue to practical solution in 2 clicks.
Homepage as a dashboard
Single access point for editorial content, deadline calendar, tools, and search.
Drastically reduces fragmentation across activities.
Unified multimodal search
Analytical index, free search, and guided search coexist in a single space.
Eliminates dispersion across modes and reduces clicks.
Vertical specializations by subject
Modules with document types and tools available for separate purchase.
Increases the perceived value of the offering.
Freemium model for upselling
Progressive access: guest, registered, subscriber.
Maximizes acquisition and conversion.

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS
One feature no one else has, but behind on flexibility
Feature Inventory of the Tax and Labour areas across the 4 main competitors, for subscribed users.
Areas: search modes, personal area, folder and document features, deadline and compliance management.
The system compared to competitors
The only with guided search
Aggregates packages of documents and tools on key regulatory topics.
0/4 support this functionality.
Not customizable home
The homepage has been transformed into an operational hub for activities. 3/4 already offer an adaptive dashboard.
Rigid folder management
Folder structure is less flexible compared to market standards.
4/4 offer more functionality.
Richer document interactions
Offers a wide range of features, but with low visibility.
4/4 have limited features.
More complete personal area
Includes notes, bookmarks and search history.
4/4 are behind.
HEURISTIC EVALUATION
More ways to search, yet no direction
Issues to address:
Fragmented multimodal search disoriented rather than guided.
5 modes, but distributed across different interface points with no clear hierarchy.

Navbar with hidden sections and icons with ambiguous meaning.

Chaotic filters and components with not standard behavior.

USER FLOW
Type a query or browse a topic. What you see depends on your access.
Text search, results list and document view
Subject Index and non-subscribed view
DESIGN SYSTEM
A design system built from scratch for scale and consistency

FINAL CONSIDERATIONS
What I would have validated without a conference deadline
The platform was released on a timeline constrained by an upcoming industry conference.
The product was developed with stakeholders aligned with target users.
Given the complexity of the architecture and the learning curve, a validation phase with end users would have been essential.
In particular, I would have conducted tree testing to evaluate the information architecture and task analysis to verify users’ ability to complete key flows, such as targeted search, content access and tool usage.
These activities would have helped identify navigation issues and optimize the experience before and after release.
